Volunteer Opportunities with the Friends
There are many opportunities to support the Library by volunteering some time with the Friends. Contact The Friends (alexandramatarrese@yahoo.com) if you would like to volunteer, or fill out and mail the Membership Form. Please provide your contact information if you want to volunteer.
- Book Sales. Volunteers are always needed to help set up on Friday before the presale, and on Saturday and Sunday to help straighten tables and help patrons.
- Sorting Donations. Friends volunteers are at the Library sorting room on Mondays from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm to accept and sort donations. Sorting and boxing donations can be somewhat arduous, but help is always welcome. Once each month, donated books are moved from the Library to our storage location at Alameda Point. Help is especially welcome at this time.
- Dewey’s Friends Café. Friends volunteers staff the café and it is possible to fill in just occasionally.
- Publicity. We always need help publicizing our book sales and other activities with press releases, calendar announcements, feature stories for local papers and our newsletter, and advertisements in local print and online media.
- Leadership in the Friends. We always need volunteers for positions as officers, on project planning committees, and as contacts for information about Friends activities. Some committees, such as the Book Sale and Café Committees, are standing committees whose activities continue throughout the year. Other committees are temporary for the purpose of special projects.
