Where to donate books

Donated books are crucial to the success of programs supported by The Friends of the Alameda Free Library. Donations should be taken to the Friends’ book sorting room by the Cafe in the new Library on Oak Street. When the Friends are on site, you can unload your donated books at the side door on Times Way.Drop off books.

Friends volunteers are on site Mondays from 9–11:30 am and 12:30–2 pm to accept your donations. You might also consider helping out in the donation room. The book sorters can always use a hand.

You can also drop off books in Dewey's Friends Café—in bags or boxes please.

Off-street parking is available next to the building.

Most donated books are sold in the Friends’ semi-annual book sales. If you have a rare book or a collection of historical interest, you can contact the Library directly to find out if your materials are of interest. Unusual items are often set aside for the Silent Auction at the Friends' book sales and bring in extra funds for the Library.

Either way, your gift is most welcome and provides a financial benefit to the Library.

The Friends accept books, records, DVDs, CDs, tapes, craft instructions, and many other types of materials. If you have questions about whether your materials are appropriate for donation, please contact the Friends (johnsonpkennedy@aol.com).
